Treatment and Recovery
The cost of addiction treatment is one of the most significant issues facing addicts and their families. Sadly, nearly 50% of Americans who are unable to get addiction treatment report the primary obstacle to be cost or insurance barriers. Many insurance policies do not cover the long-term addiction treatment often needed to help an addict safely through detoxification, rehabilitation, and continuing care. Even if an insurance policy covers addiction treatment, not all costs are covered and individuals often have to pay out of pocket.

Gregg’s Gift is working with Enforce the Act to help stop the sale of illegal drugs on the Internet through the enforcement of the Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act. This act was passed in 2008 to help counter the growing sale of prescription drugs over the Internet without a valid prescription. At the present time, the DEA is charged to enforce the Act with criminal sanctions and States’ Attorneys General are empowered to bring action again rogue “pharmacies”. However, the resources for both are constrained. In fact, the independent non-profit website Legit Script reports that over 96% of active Internet pharmacies are not legitimate and fewer than 250 meet minimum standard. Another emerging issue is the trafficking of prescriptions for controlled drugs through medical consultations; these consultations are sold, resulting in prescriptions for controlled drugs that can be filled at any pharmacy.
