The most wasted of all days is one without laughter – E. E. Cummings

On March 11, Gregg’s Gift will host the 3rd annual Comedy Night in partnership with Caron New York.   It has long been said that laughter is the best medicine.  It brightens our mood and relieves stress.  When laughter is shared, it unites people and increases happiness.  Perhaps for this reason, previous Comedy Nights were huge successes, raising more than $125,000 for the Gregg R. Grossman Endowed Scholarship Fund at Caron Treatment Centers.

The Gregg R. Grossman Endowed Scholarship Fund provides patient scholarships to young adults in need of substance abuse and addiction treatment.  Addiction is a disease of the brain that too often goes untreated.  More than 23 million people in the United States need treatment for an alcohol or drug abuse problem; sadly, only 10% of those suffering receive treatment at a specialty facility.

Addiction cut my brother Gregg’s life short at the age of 26.  When Gregg was receiving addiction treatment he spoke about wanting to help others battling the disease.  After his tragic death, my family and I wanted to find a way to carry out Gregg’s wishes and keep his memory alive.  In this spirit, we established Gregg’s Gift, a non-profit organization dedicated to positively impacting the lives of addicted young adults, their families and friends, and our community.

Comedy Night is our primary annual fundraiser because an evening of comedy truly embodies Gregg’s spirit.  Gregg was incredibly caring and generous, always going out of his way to make people happy.  He was also hysterically funny.  Gregg never let a day pass without laughter and he is remembered everyday for his outstanding sense of humor.  Comedy night is everything Gregg was about.  A night of shared laughter.  A night to help others.  A night to make people happy.

We hope that you will join us on March 11 as we come together in laughter to celebrate Gregg’s spirit, raise money to provide treatment and hope to those suffering from the disease of addiction, and laugh down the stigma.
